Watching a theater artist perform in Tobou Jege Uthi left me lingering on the thought of how someone — a theater artist, or perhaps someone I never expected to witness in such a light — could pierce through their inner self and reach such a profound state. There is a shift between reality and character externally, yet one can wonder if the inner self undergoes something far more intangible. How intense is the divide between the real person and the embodied role they take? The impact of such a divide creates a mental crater — one that either births a crisis or something else entirely. The performances feel like more than just an execution of a role; as though the artist sees themselves in some unseen dimension beyond the stage. What does the inner self go through during the external change of reality and character?
