Gyalpo Losar

By

Project statement

Gyalpo Losar is the New Year celebration of the Sherpa, bringing together families and the local community. The festival is celebrated for two weeks, though the first three days are the most important.

On the first day, the house is cleaned and khapse is baked.
On the second day, close family gathers and holy water is collected in silence.
On the third day, the Sherpa community gathers in monasteries to socialize, chant mantras, and perform ceremonial dances.

Through these activities, Gyalpo Losar has long been a time for honoring the spirits of nature, divinity, and agricultural prosperity.
