How Soon Is Now?

Project statement
Being pregnant is one of the most natural experiences in the world, and yet it remains one of the most miraculous and dangerous things a woman can go through. The same is true in Nepal, where women often risk their own health to bring new life into the world.
With long and treacherous roads leading to hospitals and birthing centers, maternal mortality rates remain high. However, these rates are decreasing, partly due to improved access to healthcare.
Outside a house near Okhaldhunga Community Hospital, three women sit on worn, old mudas. The sun shines brightly as sounds from the hospital blend gently with the rustling wind in the trees. These women do not know each other, but spend every day and night together during the final weeks of their pregnancies.
Despite being strangers, they are united by a single, shared experience: Waiting.
