Kapwa

Project statement
In Filipino psychology, kapwa is considered a core value. It is the idea that the self is not separate from others; rather, the self is defined through relationships. So when you treat someone with compassion or kindness, it is not just because they are "someone else" — it is because they are part of you, too.
This collectivist mindset shapes various aspects of Filipino society, from family dynamics to political structures. Kapwa encourages people to act for the common good and to make sacrifices for their community. The concept fosters unity and mutual support, but also reveals complexities and challenges when faced with issues such as inequality, corruption, and modernization.
