Project statement
Where the road once ran, now lies the ocean.
Where we once played along the shore, now stands a brick wall.
Where our ancestors rest, now the fish pass by.
Where our homes once stood, now ruins sleep beneath the sea.
Now, we have nowhere left to go.
This is the reality for many along the northern coast of Java, Indonesia. The world’s most populated island sinks by up to 25 centimeters every year. The rising seas and sinking land have destroyed homes and infrastructure, brought frequent flooding, and erased biodiversity. For new generations, this is the only life they know.
